Weldon’s Trent Lott Moment

Remember Senator Trent Lott saying: “When Strom Thurmond ran for president [in 1948], we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over the years, either”.

Rep. Dave Weldon, R-Indialantic has had his Trent Lott moment uttering these words about the late Rev. Jerry Falwell:

“He was sincerely motivated by his strong faith in God and a deep love for our country,” Weldon said in a statement. “Rev. Falwell effectively shaped some of the most consequential moral issues of our day. For that, we are a better nation.”

Lott lost his position as Senate Minority Leader for his remarks.
